    Good Morning- Every so often, I run some checks on my equipment and OS. Recently, I ran Recovery Console> 'FIXMBR' after doing Seagate HDD test(s), 'CHKDSK', 'CHKDSK /P' (found some errors), and 'CHKDSK /R'. The 'FIXMBR' prompt issued the 'non standard or invalid mbr' warning. I don't recall ever getting that message before- but I could be mistaken. Could someone please walk me through the WHOLE procedure for BOOT diagnosis/repair, please?... The machine has just started loading and shutting down in a rather slow fashion. I have went through 'msconfig' and there is no viral content on the machine.
    OS= Windows XP Professional SP3 x86
    Thanks for any and all help.
    Have a great day! :wave

    Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...

    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:

    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message.

    Thanks, TimW.... I'll report back. Some people online are saying to just ignore the warning in RC, type in 'y' and enter it.

    You zipped up the executable itself and attached that instead of the log.

    Nothing wrong with your MBR at all. ;)

    Thanks, Kestrel13!... that's what I thought. I googled the results of the MBRCheck, and it seems there would have been something specific attached to the scan results.
