I go to the Macormedia Flash website and everytime I try to download the new Flash 9 my browser gives me this message. I tried uninstalling Flash 8 and I still get it.

How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control

Due to recent enhancements with the Flash Player installers, you are now only able to uninstall by using the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller (below). To uninstall Flash Player, simply download the appropriate uninstaller for your system and follow the instructions listed below.

    Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller
Download the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller:
    Flash Player 8 uninstallers
    Windows: uninstall_flash_player.exe (182K)

Note: If you have a Windows Flash Player uninstaller downloaded prior to May 11, 2006 on your desktop, please delete it and download the latest version. The uninstaller has been updated to address Windows permission issues.
    Mac OS X: uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg (278K)
    Flash Player Archived uninstallers
    Mac OS 8.x, 9.x: uninstall_flash_player.hqx (33K)
Save the file to your system, choosing a location where you can find it (for example, your Desktop). Macintosh users may need to open or unstuff the hqx file.
Quit ALL running applications, including all Internet Explorer or other browser windows, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger or other Messengers. Check the Windows system tray carefully to make certain no applications which might possibly use Flash Player are still in memory.
Run the uninstaller. This will uninstall Adobe Flash Player from all browsers on the system.

Note: The uninstaller can not uninstall files currently in use.

If you have any instances of the player open in your web browsers, instant messaging clients, stand-alone SWFs or projectors, for example, the uninstaller will complete but some files may not be deleted. If this occurs, you may close all your applications and run the uninstaller again to ensure all files are removed.Last updated: 2006-6-28

I had this exact same problem about a month or so ago. Very frustrating indeed!

My Advice: follow infoseeker's "How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control" instructions once again; however this time when you're done uninstalling Flash 8; immediately run CCleaner (both the Issues as well as Cleaner functions) BEFORE trying to install Flash Player 9.

This worked for me but I was simply amazed by all of the crapola that the prior version of Flash had left in my system/registry, etc. after running the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control uninstaller. I believe I actually had to run CCleaner like three times to get all rid of the "leftovers." Hope this works for you as well! ;)

    Good Luck!

ya, i think sometimes in any appllication it needs to try 2 times uninstalling
Same happen to me when i tried to uninstall IE7
First tried to uninstall IE7, then i tried to search for any remnants of IE7, my pc says its clean but still OE and IE6 messed
So what i do is, i tried again the uninstalling process of IE7

    So try again :)

Anytime Bladesofhalo... My pleasure, really! Glad it worked out for you. ;)

This CCleaner program is truly a freeware ‘godsend’ and is especially helpful for anyone who installs, reinstalls or removes programs occasionally or on a regular basis; and has any problems at all with "leftovers" after the uninstall procedure. Many program developers tend to spend very little time developing their programs' ability to "uninstall" their products, leaving tons of junk in the system and registry.

I use CCleaner all the time because I'm always trying out new shareware and freeware programs and utilities. I actually use it everytime I uninstall something; just to be on the safe side. I also like the fact that the "Issues option" offer several options like removing registry entries that go nowhere and works wonders removing other various program 'leftovers' that are 'dead' or obsolete, or aren't listed in Add/Remove after you attempt to uninstall programs and utilities. As a bonus, CCleaner's "Cleaner option" also get rid lots of "hidden" temporary stuff like "Internet Logs" and "Temp Files" and to free up hard drive space as well.

    Good Luck!
