Flash drive corrupt

About a week or two ago, my 4GB Sandisk U3 cruzer flash drive started acting weird. Some folders suddenly went missing, others had a file I/O error when I tried to open them and some worked mostly fine.

I tried to copy over as much data as I can but there are still some files I couldn't recover using that method. I noticed that the computer (windows xp) slowed down when I was trying to salvage my files. Also, windows explorer suddenly slowed down when I tried to navigate my flash drive, but when I insert it into windows 7, it doesn't slow down. I tried chkdsk but it didn't have any effect.

I tried inserting the flash drive into a Linux, but it shows up as my flash drive having 7.3 GB of files. It doesn't show all the folders but some files were reported as being up to 4 GB in size and the date modified value had some crazy stuff in there (one file "made" in 1930, another in 2032). Since then I kept my flash drive stored at room temperature in my room.

Is there any way to recover more files than what i have? It would be really great to recover most, if not all, of the contents of my flash drive.

Last time I tried to recover files that were already corrupt, I failed - and I tried hard ...

Try out some of the free tools here, Test Disc & Photo Rec probably goes deepest.

Otherwise try the demo/trial of RecoverMyFiles on the Recover drive setting, it (and Test Disc) is probably as deep as you can get without forensic-type tools/costs.

 

Ok. When it asks for partition table type, what should I choose?

 

Hmm, I don't remember it asking that on the Recover drive setting.
