Hi all Merry Christmas, I have just got a new digital photo frame for Christmas and bought a flash memory usb so keep in the photo frame but when I placed it in my port nothing happens. It seemed to find it once as I had a new hardware icon flash up but I took it out as I had more photos to add to the pc before I used it. Then when I put it back it my computer beebs a green light comes on the memory stick but the green light then goes and nothing not a new memory fond icon or anything any ideas?

    Thanks

    Tara

Have you tried looking for it in computer?
Click start then computer and you should see what you have as drives, the flash drive should show up as USB device and the amount of space you have on it.

If you took it out without using the safely remove icon in the tray, then you may have damaged it because it might have been writing while you removed it.

Check My Computer is the USB stick listed as drive E: or another letter? If you double click the E: drive does a window open showing any files?

Run chkdsk on it, start, run, type in chkdsk :c/r
except replace the c for the letter of the flash drive, as Windows is probably on the c drive. There is a space between chkdsk and the :c, that is if it shows in My Computer. If not see if it shows under Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management. Sometimes you just need to shut down, remove, restart, and then insert. I've burned up a few, usually do to over voltage. But it should be ok if you are getting a light, probably just coruppted files.

hi just tried it again today the green light is no longer on looked in computer management it says disk 0 cdrom 0 does not mention anything about the flash stick. Also to plodr i was not writing anything to the stick when i pulled it out as I put it in remembered that i had to transfer some photos from the camera first then took it out not sure if i should try another sitck as this one was a cheap one but the reviews were good on it. It really is driving me mad!!

    Hi

Which Windows version and service pack you using?

What brand of USB Stick is it?

Are you using a Laptop and if on battery try plugging in the mains, at times some USB ports dont have enough power.

Do you have installed TweakUI from Microsoft? (should find it in All Programs on the start menu or in Control Panel, note if using Vista then you wont have it)

Have you tried this USB stick in a different PC, just to check its not the USB Stick faulty?

Try a different USB port on your PC.

What you could try is at times if you have other memory sticks is that while they should all have unique numbers some dont and the driver that installs gets confused, so remove any cameras, USB sicks and any non essential USB devices, is to open Device Manager and scroll down to USB Controllers and click the + to open the list out.

Then plug in this USB sick and you should all being well see a USB Mass Storage Device popup in the list (may need to click refresh at top menu if not) if so right click it and choose Uninstall > OK and it should disapear from list.

Unplug it and then plug it back in, this time you should see a popup that New Hardware Found and device is being installed.

Then as mentioned look in My Computer for the USB device and try copying some files to it.

Go into Disk Managment (steps are mentioned in post #6) and you should see drives listed like mine below, what does yours say for the Removable Disk (mine highlighted in green)

While their you could right click the Removable Disk and choose Chaneg Drive Letter and change it to something like Z as thats not commonly used up as they go in order unless manually changed.

If everything suggested in this thread doesnt work I would be very tempted to as its a new USB stick is to have it changed.

    Hi

Typing while your other posts where posted.

Yes if that circle is blue then the drive is full, curious for a new one, what file System does it mention?

You could try right click > Format on it and format to same File System (tick the Quick Format box), especially if you have never put any info on it yet.

*as I mentioned it could also be a faulty one*

Ack! It gets annoying doing that. I have better luck with the U3 flash drives working from the front but they can be problematic too.

I'm beginning to understand why my brother carries around a pocketful of flash drives. ;)
