Flash Player installation problems

    Adobe Flash Player wasn't working right so I figured I'd uninstall and reinstall it. When I went to a web site with flash animations (like NVidia's home page) the animation would open, but that's it. No movement, no animation. Just the opening scene would come up as a still image. So I go to Add/Remove Programs and its listed twice: as Adobe Flash Player ActiveX and as Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX. The first wouldn't remove w/o an error and the other removed just fine. I then went to adobe.com to install it using the online installer. It looked like it complete, but I never got the yellow bar at the top with the ".... ActiveX component may be needed..." message and I never got the "Install Successful" banner movie. But there were no errors. Needless to say it didn't work. So I tried adobe's offline installer. It would go along OK, then just close with no errors. It just closed; and didn't work. So I then tried the Complete Standalone Installer. It errors out with the message I've attached below. Any help with this is appreciated. Thanks.

    Here is how to uninstall Adobe Flash
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2
    go through that, then try and reinstall.
    If you still get the 1904 error then try
    This is actually not for XP but it might work if you put Flash9d.ocx in place of the file name.

    Thanx but it didn't work :( It turns out that Windows Updates fail also. I've done several malware scans and they come up clean..... Dial A Fix didn't do anything to help either....
