Flash Players

For some reason, my computer keeps deleting the flashplayer (I think) as I cannot watch any videos (for example on facebook, etc). I was sure that I previously uploaded updated a few times but then a few week later, I see only black or white screens where videos should be. Today I tried the Microsoft flashplayer update and I got an error message that I was updating with the incorrect version or something to that effect. Can anyone give me directions to find out what exactly I need and a safe place to download it from? Thanks much - you guys (gender non-specific) are always a great help.

Thanks but you're dealing with someone who just luckily happened upon this site and doesn't have the capabilities of most of the people who are here - can you please explain am I supposed to be able to get the links somehow from your post or do I just copy the link and paste it in my IE browser?

 

Copy the first link I posted in the box and paste it into your IE address bar. Hit enter and a download box will appear. Let it download.
If you haven't changed where IE downloads things (I changed mine to the desktop so I could find what I download easily) after the download has finished, close the browser. Flash will NOT install if a browser is running.

Open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Users\your username\Downloads
in there you should see install_flash_player_19_active_x.exe click on it and you will get the UAC popup to accept it to run. Then you will see an Adobe window. You need to click I have read or I accept (I don't remember the exact wording). Once you select that, the install button will no longer be grayed out and you simply click install.

Glad you got it working. Print out the instructions because at the very least you will need to update flash every 2nd Tuesday of the month which is Patch Tuesday for older Windows versions.

Sometimes flash is updated oftener, like this week it was updated twice, when a severe security hole is discovered and a patch is issued.

 

Ok, I'm back again. Of course as you indicated, my videos went black so I know I needed to update. I used the Windows Update but this apparently didn't update my flash, so I will follow your instructions above and install an update. One question that I have is, I don't have to do this on my work laptop and my hubby doesn't do this on his computer - so why do I keep having to update this and isn't there any kind of setting that will do it automatically? Thanks.

 

No, it will not update automatically unless it is Windows 8 and only for Internet Explorer. Other browsers have to be done by you.

Yes it does need to be updated. Flash is a way for malware to get into computers so the bad guys are always looking for out of date flash (meaning it has a security hole) so they can plant malware on the computer.

I have my browsers (Palemoon and Firefox) set flash as Ask to Activate. That protects me and I only activate it on sites I trust.
