I downloaded Flashget v 1.8.2.1002 last week.It has many features that I like, but when I'm downloading Programs, the speed is erratic,it goes often from 28 KBps(which is my max on Dialup connection I Have) down to 0 and everywhere in between !We don't have High Speed DSL here.
Anyone know what could be causing this? It did'nt use to be like this in the past!
I went on the Flashget.com Forum web site, and what a mess that is.Other folks there had similar problem and,i'll be darned if I could see the reply to their Posting! All I see was little empty square blocs, and if I clicked any of them,I got nothing!
    My computer has:Win XP Pro,SP2...

I had issues with it as well

It was disconnecting me from the internet everytime I tried to use it

So, I rolled back to 1.73

Its a shame cause the new version looks good

I wish I could get 28KBps on dialup here. ;)

Maximum here in OZ is about 5KBps.:cry

Even 256 Broadband will only give around your speed (20-26 KBps):( Bazza

Ive always got from 46.6 up to 52 on dial up (depending on the house)
    running 48 at the moment

    Any slower is painful

Have you gone to the Flashget .com site Forum as I did,and if so,were you able to see replies to postings from people there that have the same problem?
You know, I have a similar problem with "Download Express" a file downloader i've been using for a few years! What a time waster and annoyance.

Just took a look at the forum then

Its to do with it being in chinese
I would imagine you would have to download/instal language packs to view the site correctly.

I sent them an email about a month ago, have not received a reply so far

the version I am using works fine
and I believe it is the first version without adware

your original issue could be due to the sites themselves, your ISP, your local phone exchange or flashget. (etc)

I generally download with flashget overnight, so I dont monitor the speed variations

I get 52000bps, which I think is roughly the equivalent of 5Kbps.

I do not think it is physically possible to get more than 5Kbps on dialup.

My friends on Broadband only get around 25Kbps, so I think you may have the wrong conversion. If not, please advise me your ISP and I will immediately swop to them. :major :D

I cant answer your problem but I can reccomend Free Download Manager. I have a cable link but you can change the settings on this so it dosent take up too much resources if your browsing. If you cant sort it out i would deffo give this a go.

I had been using "Free Download Manager" a couple of months ago,but when I saw all this glowing bragging, about how much faster you could download stuff,I thought i'd give Flashget a try.Not happy so far.

I see you had the same experience with the Flashget site.No reply to your email after a month,I would guess that this was a wasted effort on your part!I'm glad that, not all Free program download sites are not that way.
My problem might very well be with our phone line, but when you check this out with them, they claim everything is normal! Thanks for your help.

Its AAPT these days, used to be Telstra (who suck immensley by the way)

In the notification area at the moment the status reads 46.6 Kbps

which is 46.6 kilobits per second
not 46.6 kilobytes per second ;)

    -----------------------------------

regardless of speed I still prefer flashget to the other dozen or so that I have tried in the past

Its free, cant expect too much

Just wondering why you are only getting 28.8 kbps ?

    Do you have a 56k modem ?

46.6 is the lowest Ive ever got in three different houses

funny thing is the other pc in the house
only connects to the net rarely, and does so through an extension cord
piggy backed off of my modem
and it always gets 52kbps :cry

Got my bytes, bits and Kbps probably mixed. I'll check out AAPT. Thanks. :major Bazza

AAPT has been a bit flaky lately (I will blame them anyway)
but the big advantage (besides price) is that i can often stay connected for 7 hours.
Telstra (who I used to get 52kbps) always cut out at 4 hours max - and cost three times as much for a maximum of 400mb per month (few years ago)

    Shanemail,
I solved my problem! I reinstalled Free Download Manager v 2.3 and so far I don't have the Flashget problem! So I'm getting rid of Flashget.
