    Hey

I have an A8N32-SLI-DELUXE motherboard. I was using Bios 1009 and I wanted to update to something more recent. Being inexperienced as I was I ended up using the wrong flash utility (AWDFLASH.EXE) The utility never actually proceeded to flash my bios because it told me warning you have the wrong utility and it exited.

My computer always took 20 seconds to enter windows, but after that my computer was taking 5 minutes to boot into windows. As well my internet stopped working. I decided that if I could flash the bios properly these problems would disappear, so after doing more research I was on the right track.

I found the flash utility AFUDOS.EXE, and I managed to update my bios to version 1303. However I found out after doing this that my problem was not gone. My computer still takes 5 minutes to start up. I then consulted ASUS technical forums to ask for help and they told me to do an extended CMOS clearing procedure. Which is what I did.

However even after doing the extended CMOS procedure my computer still takes 5 minutes to boot up, and on top of that the internet still doesn't work, and two more problems have appeared, my computer wont recognize my USB mouse and it wont recognize my external SATA hard drives.

What happens exactly is that it loads to the login screen, when i click to login it freezes for about 1 minute. Then it enters my desktop, and i see my background but nothing else. It stays like that for 2 minutes until it plays the windows login song, and then another 2 minutes after that my icons, start bar, and everything else finally appear, and I can use my computer.

I am hoping someone can help me fix my boot issue. This computer used to boot in 20 seconds or less with 60 processes running, over 15 startup items, and even with 100 mb on the desktop. I would like to return it to its former glory! Please let me know what you can do.

When you flash the bios your bios settings return to default,I'd go through each bios setting and get as many settings as you can not using the automatic setting, every time you boot the bios has to redetect the hardware causing slower boot up

I think due to the wrong bios being used the wrong motherboard drivers could have been automatically used at startup or windows is having trouble finding a driver, download and install the latest drivers from ASUS,all of them, check device manager for any devices that have an explaination mark next to them, either download and install the driver for the device or disable it until you can get a driver see if this speeds up boot time

Also check the malware forum and follow this guide, you may be infected and bios update just coincide's with your symptoms,

I used the right bios, revision 1303 for the A8NSLI-DELUXE motherboard. I also have the latest drivers installed, and my computer has no problem devices or disabled devices.

I am 100% sure that I have no malware or viruses.

I do have 20 gigs free.

So I guess I will defragment the drive.
