Flat Sceen Monitor Issue

I have a V7 brand 19in flat screen monitor. I bought it last year online on blackfriday. Naturally it has started having problems 1month after the manufacturer's warranty expired.

My husband uses it mostly for gaming.

One morning I got up to check my email - the screen turned on fine - then suddenly went black & the picture will not return. I turn off the monitor - then back on - & picture comes back for a second - flashes- turns off.

The manufacturer told me to send it to them at my cost plus 100 to repair the issue. could there be something I am missing before I do this? I have an extended warranty from my CC but they don't cover the cost of shipping.
