Flickering corner in Sims 2

I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my computer and had to update all of my drivers again. After reinstalling The Sims 2, I noticed that the bottom righthand corner of the screen was flickering. I put the refresh rate as high as it would go (85) and I played around with a few of the settings in the Catalyst Control Center, but nothing has helped. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, but it didn't do anything. Everything else seems fine.

Here are my system specs:
OS: Windows XP Home Edition
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Memory: 768MB
Graphics card: Radeon 9800 Pro (AGP), 128MB memory

I think that's all the relevant info. Any help would be much appreciated. The flicker is pretty irritating!

 

Has this game ever worked properly on this PC?

Have you installed any official Sims 2 patches?

Have you tried updating your motherboard and sound drivers?

What version of DirectX are you using, and have you run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool? (Start, run and type in dxdiag then OK)


Also, make sure there are no unnecessary background programs running at the same time.

Yes, the game used to be fine.

I have all available patches installed.

Yes, I updated those drivers too.

I have DirectX 9.0c and have run the diagnostic tool but it didn't show any problems or conflicts.

I always shut down all the extraneous processes I can before running a game, but it still flickers.

 

Have you tried completely uninstalling the game, then reinstalling?

Also, what is your desktop resolution and game resolution set at?
