what is the correspondece between a "flop" and the GHz figure that PCs are usually measured in? same thing? factor of 7 or 8 (bit v byte thing)? and does the "2" for dual core factor in?

put another way, does my 2.2 GHz/dual-core represent 2.2 gigaflops, 4.4 gigaflops, 7 or 8 times either, or something else entirely?

basically, i'm curious what multiple this supercomputer is of my own PC.

i've read the wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLOPS ) but the whole flops/mips thing leaves me confused.

secondly, i'm curious at what point (1970, 1975, etc) the world record would have actually been AT the level of my PC. is there a graph somewhere showing "world's fastest" by year? some variation on a moore's law graph?

    TIA!

I read that too i got confused about Terra Flops and what ever manily its a bunch of desktop mobs linked together making one big super computer.I think the highest is Tflops as far as i know.
