Floppy disk with bad sectors

Just a quick question: I've recently found a floppy disk that has some bad sectors on it. Every time I've used cmd> format a:, the number of bad sectors has gone down by about 1/2 of the previous total. Is it damaging the floppy drive by doing this, as it makes some really loud (but normal) floppy drive sounds when it gets to the bad sectors? I'm just asking as if the drive went, I'd probably have to ring up Dell to get a replacement for it... [Computer is the one listed in detail in my signature] It's a Dell XPS.

Forgot to add this before the Edit time expired..

I'm throwing it out either way; it's not like I'm scrounging for disks here, just a pure knowledge question.
