It's a Dell Dimension 3100, boots up to a black screen with floppy diskette seek failure. Went into setup and tried disabling floppies also tried restoring settings to factory default and it tells me It can't find my hard drive. I don't know anything about computers, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Computer is not mine so don't know what it might have been doing prior to this. Belongs to my nephew (Student) and uses it only for writing papers for school, and uploading pics off digi cam, which is the urgency for getting the darn thing running (recover pics)

Most drive manufactures make software for creating a boot diagnostic disk for there drives if you can find out who made the drive go to there website create a disk and see what it comes up with as it could be a failed hard drive.

If you reset the factory settings, you may need to change the boot order back to hdd first. Does bios detec the hard drive?
You should see it at boot or go into bios and look for it.

Replace the gray ribbon cable and see if your Dimension now sees the hard drive.
