Floppy drive not accessable with XP?

I have recently updated my Dell Dimension desktop computer from Windows 98 to the new and improved super shiny and wonderful Windows XP. It has given me a mountain of issues to resolve, and so far I have been coping well (even if I do say so myself), however... it doesn't seem to recognise the A:\ drive (floppy disk). It claims every disk I put in is unformatted (but I know they are formatted, I can open them on other machines). If I format a disk in the drive, it comes up with the same message when I reinsert it (after it has supposedly been formatted). Any ideas how I can resolve this, because although the floppy drive isn't used often, I do use it everynow and again, and it would be a real pain not to have it.

    Many thanks

Your not trying to format to 720k are you? Other than that, it sounds like a bad floppy drive.

No, it want's to format every disk, and I've got the capacity settings correct. The floppy drive was working fine before I installed windows XP, does it have a history of rejecting hardware?

Only known problem is fomatting 720k. So in your case I would say it's a bad floppy drive. If you have another computer handy you could swap them out and test.
