Fold on i7?

A thread in the gaming forum today reminded me that I was going to come here and ask questions. :)

Now that I have beautiful Black Lotus with an i7, it has occurred to me that I can make him fold for the MG team, so I can start contributing and get caught up again. I was all happy and excited and then realized that I have no idea how that would work. I'm thinking we have probably some knowledgable folders here who can help me. :)

My first question, the client on the official Stanford site doesn't mention Win7. It'll still work, right?

Second, how well does it support i7 processors? If I'm only getting a super-puny bit of folding out of it, how to I tweak it to make my shiny new i7 better and fold like the beast it is?

I've been out of the folding...er... fold, for way too long, I've completely lost track or forgotten all the things I knew about it. I suspect I have a lot of catching up to do...

    HI Mimsy

While I will bow down the the others who can advise you on SMP folding, F@H works fine on Win7 (32/64bit) and on i7s as I'm using the normal client on a Win7 i7 PC.

Thanks for the link, that looks like the info I need. :)

Now that I know the client will working fine, I'm in the process of downloading. We're 12072, right?

LOL. You only just got that too!:-D What a sieve I have for a brain!:-o Ya, go for the MPICH guide entering your password and passkey. I'll have a look around at what may be better for you but I think this is it as you won't be folding 24/7 nor will you be OC'ing the machine either, right?;)

Definitely right. Absolutely no OC'ing here! If nothing else, I like having a 2-year warranty on the hardware, I'd rather not lose that.

And you're right, it won't be on 24/7, and there's a possibility that I may want t turn off the client when playing games, for heating reasons. We'll see. I'm reading through the guide Halo linked to, so I'll know more what I'm getting into before I start installing.
