whenever i empty the recylcle bin i get the message "cannot remove folder Dc5: access is denied"
there is nothing visible in the window and i have Show all Files enabled
i have tried to empty the bin in Safe mode too
as the message halts the deletion process i have to select the remaining visible files manually and delete them

    Hi

Most likely not a malware issue, so moving this thread to software,

Sounds like a stubborn file thats been locked by the system or a specific application, but try the below.

Open a Command window ( Start > Run > and type CMD [enter] ) and shut down any other running programs and then hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to open the Task Manager

Then in Task Manager click the Processes tab look down the list and select Explorer.exe > Click on the End Process button ( Note: you will see the desktop and taskbar will disappear and you'll be left with just Task Manager and the Command window, dont worry this is normal ) > leave Task Manager open and return to the Command window.

At the command prompt type: ( text in bold )
    rd /s /q C:\Recycler and hit [enter]
type: exit and hit [enter] to close the command box/window.

Go back to Task Manager and on the Applications tab click the button for New Task > then in the box that pops up type: Explorer and hit [OK]

at this point your desktop and taskbar should revert to normal, now reboot and if you see the bin not empty, just create a new folder and then delete it to populate the bin and then delete your bin and hopefuly all should be ok.

    ty for your input halo
however i have followed your suggestion and even in safe mode as Administrator
there continues to be a problem

when i entered the command as you suggested in the Command window
windows still returned an Access Denied response in that window
