I moved a folder of pictures from our laptop to an external drive, then from the external drive to our home PC ( Win XP on home PC, Win 7 on laptop ). First issue was it popped up and said could not copy the file or folder, but I found if I open the folder, I could copy the folders within the folder. What has me stumped is I copied some of the folders from my profile in Windows to my wif'es profile, and changed the name of the folder to clear up it's origin. For example, I renamed the folder "Pics from laptop". The folder remains the new name when I look at it on her desktop, but when I look through Windows Explorer, it remains the old name? Any thoughts?

It's Windows' rather pathetic attempt to protect your privacy. The 'special' folders, (My) Documents, Pictures, Music and so on are contained in your user profile, and if a different user logs on they won't normally have access to them. Similarly if you try to copy such a folder, unless you have shared it it won't allow it. But a you have already discovered it's not too difficult to work around.
