Folder Permission Access Denied

  1. Hello geeks,

So I was going through my Program Files to delete unwanted folders and files but I keep running into this message even after I changed the Permission settings in the Security Properties of the Program Files Folder. My account is set as administrator but it wants me to get administrator permission. Also under "Group or user name" are the TrustedInstaller, System, Creator Owner necessary to have there? One last question, why is there two Administrator usernames "Administrators username/Administrator" and "Users username\Users" because I only have one account on here and I'm the only one that uses it?

P.S. I'm attaching some snapshots of these messages. Thanks everyone.

What account are you currently logged into on that computer? Its possible that you are logging in as a temp profile that does not have the proper permissions.

The TrustedInstaller, System, and Owner should be in the permissions for those folders so leave those in there.

An easy way to see what profile you are logged in as would be just going to the Downloads folder and verify the path is your actual username and not some Temp profile.

Also it looks as if this computer is part of a domain or all these all local accounts?

  3. Thank you for the quick reply. Also these are all local accounts and this isn't a temp profile it is the Administrator account.

Is there some reason you are not using the built in method of removing programs and files. Why are you messing about with permissions?

  5. because these programs don't show up in the default removal program. Some of the programs have been deleted already and these are the residual files left over.

I have the same problem on Windows 8.1. The reason I'm messing with permissions is so that I can enable auditing of access to folders, files, and programs. This is a personal computer on a home network. In Windows 7 there was an unconventional solution that one time worked and another time caused problems using Windows Update. I'm looking for a solution to being able to modify the permissions to any file on my system as well, I realize some files are protected for system use and that's all good and well but I should be able to audit access with no issues. Replies on other forums have only been to ask why I would want to do some procedure to modify permissions, I thought it was a really ridiculous answer. Can anyone shed some light on the issue?

Note: I'm logged in on my Microsoft account which is a member of the administrator's group and other than Windows added accounts there are no other local accounts or network access methods.

As for the quote, what built-in methods are being referenced here?
