folder protection

dose anyone know of any security that would lock only folders instead of the computer on start up.

thanks for your responce, I found a very good in (my opinon) program. It give you the option to hide or not your files,evan the recycle bin (lol) and disk drives. The name is "Dirlock 1.4".

Depends what you mean by "lock" folders and not the computer, not readable or not deletable.

If your worried about virus or malware try using a virtual operating system typically run from dvd or cd. O.k a little slower, but if you take your o/s cd with you no one can gain access to that station unless they use another virtual o/s of course like ubcd. But this means the cd cant be infected if its a read only. All your data can still be on a normal hdd. whats good is you can take your data with you on say a flash drive or external hdd throw your virtual o/s on just about any compatible platform and theres your data and familiar o/s...yay. Easy to back up a operating system CD rather than a hdd, although updates to it can be a bit more fun...try a dvdrw so updates arent as painful and then run it in plain dvd (not burner) with out the R\W and no fear of the virtual o/s having issues apart from scratching or leaving at your m8's place.

Can always try using the old hide file, although the option to view hidden files can be actioned...although there is possibly a permission to remove the show hidden files and foldder option from the menu task bar.

Could set user permissions and give the users no access...although they wil still be visible. If you have children on you p.c and maybe legal documents? that you dont want viewed or lost, perhaps set different user accounts and of course always backup.
