Have read similar problem regarding "files" will not delete but I have a empty 0 bytes "folder" that will not delete. Have tried all of the fixes cited in this forum but the folder will not delete. All I get a msg screen saying....."cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name."
Are there any further options other than re-format?

have you tried booting in safe mode and deleting folder?
or navigating to the folder in windows explorer & deleting from there?

Can you give the full path to said folder?

Yes....C:\Documents and Settings\Gerry & Susie\Gerry\Desktop\Canada Trip Photos......perhaps you can solve this. I did go into safe mode & tried to delete, but I get the same msg. Thanks

The best method I can say is.

    Recovery console. :)

You did try, moveonboot, or similar utilities?

When you try to manually delete the folder (directory), did you get an error? If so, what was this error?

Yes. I tried Move on & all the other fixes rec by Halo...still get the same msg......"cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name." I've tried explore to remove it fm the tree dir but can't.

I'd try the recovery console then.

You will need your original xp cd though.
Now, migrate to the folder, as in:

    cd\
cd documents and settings (press enter). (you might have to type: cd "documents and settings")
    cd Gerry & Susie
    cd Gerry (odd here)
    cd Desktop

    yes, you could have typed:

    cd\Documents and Settings\Gerry & Susie\Gerry\Desktop

    Anyway

    rd /s "Canada Trip Photos"

    or

    rd "Canada Trip Photos"

If that works, then it will be gone.

    Any issues, please report! :)

Thee Fool you raised another interesting problem I've had since I setup XP. The "Gerry" folder within the path cannot be deleted since a screen tells me that it's a system folder. I est it on the C root drive by mistake & all it is a duplicate of the "Gerry & Susie" folder in the path. Will recoery console remove this for once and for all?

THEE FOOL...I could not find recovery console anywhere in the Reinstallation CD Microsoft Windows XP Pro. I inserted the CD & then re-booted. No Welcome to Setup screen appeared. I pressed F8 after re-booting again to see if the opton was there & it was not. The options showing on the CD did not offer any recovery console. Any more suggestions?

You did make sure the cd was in your cdrom drive when ye rebooted, and that bios is set to check the cd first?

Also, a "press any key to boot to cd..." should have appeared, which means, ye must press a key.

The first option, you should press r for recovery.

I got into Recovery Console but I had to change the boot sequence to boot fm CD-rom 1st. Got into it & tried to change dir just like in the old MS-Dos days and the directories did not behave like they used to. Keep getting "the command is not recognized"...gave up. Perhaps XP Pro w/ sp2 has restrictions.

Apparently I have ownership of that folder since I'm the sole user of my computer. I executed the steps in the article " How to take ownership of a Folder" and nothing changed.
