Hopefully this is the correct place for this.
I'm having two problems with windows xp.

First off, i tend to store a lot of reference images in folder, and sometimes when its in thumbnail mode, the folder will crash and close all "non-program" things that are running. It's incredibly irritating when im copying, moving, anything..

secondly, and this is a minor issue that doesnt seem to make sense, when i double click on a folder it ALWAYS opens up a new window. Under folder settings it doesn't have the option selected to open each folder in its own window either. I think it may be that under file associations perhaps folder or file folder have "explore" while the other has open?

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Im not at my actual machine, but its an hp pavilion with 512 ram, pentium 4, windows xp, adobe creative suite, firefox, avg loading at startup (sorry i have no specifics)

Photoshop can cause the crashing issue. I would start by uninstalling Photoshop. When you re-install it DO NOT make Photoshop the default program for .JPG and .PNG files, or if you want, any file type other than .PSD.

The folder option you are looking for (I think) should be My Computer > Tools > folder Options > General > Browse Folders > Open each folder in the same window.

Ok testing out on the machine at work ive been able to duplicate the folder problem.

in the file folders section like you describe there are two types of “file folder” types..

file folder, which should only have the option find, but not set as default.

the second has explore and open with neither highlighted

i guess if i knew where this entry was in the registry, i could remove the “explore” or “open” from the first folder which shouldnt have anything, or if anyone knows a default command other than open or explore (because they both open in a new window)..

i guess the problem occurred since “restoring to defaults” doesnt restore the details of these two folder types.

I'm not sure what exactly you are describing. How are you getting to what your talking about.

Does the info below sound like the problem?

Click on the link below and scroll down to # 129 on the left side (Restore Folder Options Under Tools) Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.
