Folders won't open

I have windows xp home edition installed on my computer. Recetly, none of my folders will open. When I try to open anything, from the start menu, (my music folder, my pics, my computer) a box shows up asking me to choose the program I want to open the file. I even tried to go back to a previous restore point but after it goes through the process of doing it, it says not able to restore, select another date.

i really just want to be able to open my folders again. How can these things be corrected?

 

Click Start, Run, type: regsvr32 /i shell32
