My computer recently froze up while copying data from my external hard drive, so i reset.

After this most of the folders/files on my external would not open and the names had changed to all weird characters. I would get an error message reading "ERROR: FILE NAME, DIRECTORY NAME, OR VOLUME LABEL SYNTAX IS INCORRECT" when i tried to open anything. So i downloaded the lifeguard diagnostics from western digital and ran a scan and it said it fixed the errors.

The folder names have changed back to normal but i cant open them, it just comes up with the "open with" screen

i have tried the "Click Start, Run, type: regsvr32 /i shell32" method and that didn't help. Any other ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks
