    Hi

I can't get the folding@home software to work. I've tried both the system tray and console versions. I've deactivated my anti-virus and firewall but that didn't help.

The console version opens the command window and gets to the line:

    Downloading work packet.
could not connect to work server.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Well, sometimes their servers are down. Did you allow FaHCore_11.exe and/or FaHCore_14.exe through the firewall? Which firewall are you using? Which OS?

    Hi

I'm using XP with windows firewall. I'm also running Avast Home and RVS 2010. I dont seem to have FaHCore11.exe or FaHore14.exe unless they are the two molecule icons in the screenshot i've attached (windows just says they're 'applications'). I've added both as exceptions in windows firewall and Avast but that doesn't seem to help.

I would think it's the server too but I've been having this trouble a few weeks.

I don't know how to disable the resident scanner/protection in avast. Could it be clashing with this?

OK, we can eliminate XP's firewall as that never stopped outgoing requests anyways, and the servers are never down as long as weeks either, maybe a day or two at most. There's a page at Stanfords that lists server issues which I'll have to find but I really doubt that's it.

I've never used Returnil before but that sounds like a good candidate for your issues as it sounds like it really does a lot in there. Another thing is, you shouldn't be using Avast along with RVS as it has an AV in there too.

Only one realtime anti-virus or firewall is required, doubling up only slows your machine down and could bring it to it's knees as they both scan the same areas and fight with each other. Uninstall one, reboot and see what happens.

I uninstalled RVS and that seemed to fix the problem. Looks like I've got a tough decsion to make, i liked RVS....anyhow, thanks for your help auggiedoggie.
