Okay Folding Guru’s :- Firstly I think everyone should be folding, it is a great use of the spare CPU cycles and doesn’t cost the user a thing, however the folding page here is bit intimidating for a novice. I just went to the Stanford site and downloaded the first program I saw that I thought would work, and guess what it did. So I have downloaded a protein to fold successfully and it did so and sent it back and has now started another unit, which seems to be the same one that I did before???????, plus my access is denied to see my stats???? I think/hope that the 300+ credits I earned for the first Work Unit/WU went to both myself and the Major Geeks team, but I have know way of knowing, other than my log and yes I entered the team# 12072

I do not known about the previous problems you guys had with Folding, but it seems from this forum that the rest of the Folders are on another “Exclusive Forum” Sheesh, this helps us Newbies a lot…..Not, as it appears we are posting to a dead link. I fail to see the reason why someone should have to wait a month and request a password to discuss there problems/questions. What the heck can some other Folding Team do with that info???

Now don’t get me wrong, my fellow Geekers are some of the nicest people I have had the good fortune of meeting, but the secrecy of this forum and the hidden one, just scares away those that would like to Fold. I know for it took me six months to tackle Folding, and I had wanted to from the first time I came to Major Geeks. Hope someone can address my questions

    Hey BC,
I'm just a folder but I believe the Tactics was just when they started the idea around here. The easiest way for me was to DL the console version and let it run as a service so all you have to do is check your stats every now and then at the extremefolding link. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Thanks for the reply LBMEST I really don't know what I have all I see is a "Red" cogged wheel in my Taskbar, it offers User Statistics but when I click it it say access forbidden????? Same with Team Statistics????? First I thought maybe I had to complete a "Fold" but having done one unit still can not see anything Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

You'll have to ask goldfish or somebody else about the restricted thread.
If you use the console version, after downloading and installing it will run as a service after a reboot. I just put it in its own folder on C drive and go from there.

The Tactics thread was mainly just an idea. We had some problems with people trying to sabotage our team at some point in the past, so it made sense to discuss stuff privately.

Anyone can have the password if they really want to :p They'd just have to ask me. But nobody has posted in there for months :)

How could someone sabatoge our team? With lies? And why would they want to?

Personally I though Beefy's challange was cool, we lost, but it was fair and square (and I think he did some preparing before posting here). I feel like the tortose, but I'm passing a lot of folks that seemed to have dropped out. I'm now 181 in rankings, and slowing down fast.

If I ever get some free time I might bring another Athlon 1800 online. If ever...

Stanford seems to be upping my WU sizes, I feel complemented, but dang they take forever.

BTW, anyone notice one of the Nobel Prize winners is from Stanford? He's a biologist, and his work was a special application on a folding protien. Makes you go hmmm...

I should be bringing 2 more online soon, should keep me in the top 5 providers for mg's in the 24 hour averages but still only 65ish in the main ranks. not too shabby for a couple of months though.
