Folding Temps ok?

Just a quick question about core temps while folding guys. Cant seem to find a real answer anywhere

I just installed an E6600 in my old machine that had an E5400(got an UNBELIEVEABLE price i couldnt pass up to try it out)

I used to run around 35 degrees and it stayed pretty constant, folding or not. I think i may have hit 40 to 45 or so with the old chip.

I installed the new chip, used the old heatsink and fan as it looked much more durable, bigger and easier to mount. (used thermalpaste and also cleaned the heatsink before i installed it)

Now my temps run about 50 degrees idle, and 63 degrees folding (2 folding progs, one gpu and one cpu)

I havent noticed any problems, but the fan does obviously run faster, making it noiser, where before you couldnt hear it. (obviously because of the hotter temps)

When playing a game, temps stay around 50, 55.

    Are these temps ok?

    Using OCCT to monitor them.

According to this Intel spec sheet, you're running a bit hot but it's hard to know which temp they're talking about. Here's another good yet simple chart, I would think try and change your HS/F to what came with your E6600, you're too close to the top.. I was surprised to see that they are slower than the E5400 clock yet have a faster FSB

    Hi

I would get a new heatsink as using the old heatsink may not be upto the job as Intel do spec them to match up with specific CPUs, so is likely the cause of the temp increase, as Augie says install the one that came with the E6600 or would get a good 3rd party HSF if one didnt come with the CPU

Hehehe, after seeing the second link and what my Q6600 was doing, I cut it off! I had it up to 3.07 GHz but it was at 85C!:eek :-D So, I'm back at stock and counting my blessings that the CPU didn't burn! Phew! :)

It's still at 65C though with full folding so I'm going to get a better cooler, sooner than later too as summer's coming up. I talked about this before but I'll order the H-50 right now on the CC which I hate doing but I don't want to replace CPU either! There goes my bottle of single malt for the month!:cry;)

Yeah i was a bit surprised that my "numbers" (vista score and benchmark) actually went DOWN a few points even though the FSB was higher and the newer one is a Core 2 Duo.

BUT, my games play the same, maybe even a bit better so SOMETHING is better.

It did come with a stock cooler but the mounting hardware looks sketchy to me(plastic that clicks into place instead of screwing right to the board) and the heat sink is smaller.

I may pick up a heatsink/fan combo from Fry's. They have some kick *** ones that look like they would do fine, but they cost close to as much as i paid for the processor. (which, like i said was a BARGAIN, for what i was looking at a month ago with NO heat sink OR fan)

    Thanks for the input guys.

Ahh, you mean the plastic pushpins? Ya, that's what I got with my quad and it works well enough as long as I don't push the machine but I can't see pushpins keeping the same pressure on the HS/F as screws would. IDK really, I mean that's what they're selling. Just good enough but I can't blame them for that. It's business.
