Font me

On account of designing my own business card recently I've had to deal with font issues recently. I'd like to know:

    1. Can I boldface (buff-up) a font in word or adobe designer if I just have the base or regular version of it, or do I always need a separate bold-version?

    2. Is there a way around restrictions on embedding certain fonts to pdf-files that aren't supposed to be "embeddable?"

    3. Best free and non-free programs for viewing fonts side by side, and for deleting or storing away fonts from your system that you don't like and won't need because no one uses them?

    4. How can I check where a given program gets its fonts from? (For example, where does adobe acrobat look besides its own font folder?)

    5. Is there a program I could use to make a font of my own handwriting without too much hassle (I have a scanner)?

    Thanks.
