I am still new to this site and all, but I hope you don't mind me sharing something that occupied the better part of my day the other day.

I had someone working in Word 2007, and when they looked at a certain document, some areas of the document had italics, but the same document accessed from the same network drive location in the office we not having that problem. I looked at the obvious things like the font type, and it matched exactly in name to everyone else, doublechecked that he was pulling it up in compatibility mode like everyone else and he was. However, I noticed that the style selected didn't look the same as everyone else's.

When I tried to go into styles and change the font style from italics to normal, I had no such choices. Only Italic or bold italic for this font named Cent Schbook BT. Now I'm thinking that Office is corrupt and needs repairing. So I do the repair, no luck. I try ripping out down to the registry and reinstall, no luck. No other forums really addressing this. I'm starting to get angry Mr. McGee, and you wouldn't like me when I'm angry!

Finally, I browse to Windows fonts and compare font library from a computer without the problem, to one with the problem. I noticed that for this font type, there were 4 different one's on the problem computer, but there was no reference to this font type period on the one without issue. I then went back into styles, then font settings, and saw that at the bottom where the font appeared, on the problem computer it said it was installed, but on the computer without the issue, it did not say it was installed.

I uninstalled all fonts with that name on the problem computer and lo and behold, problem solved! So if you run into an issue where you cannot change the font style, goto the style currently in use on the menu bar, right click and goto modify, then in the bottom left corner of the next screen click format, then font. If you do not have the full menu of choices, i.e. regular, italic, bold, etc, then likely you have a rogue font that got installed somehow.

To delete the font in question, goto C:\Windows\Fonts and then delete the offending font.

I thought I would type this up because I couldn't find anything on this myself, and hopefully via a search engine, someone else in trouble can get faster help. Thanks!
