Reading some of the news this morning and the WC thread spurred me to create this thread which originally only had 1 question but now has 2.

So, question 1:

Aparently Pele has ripped into Maradona saying he only took the WC job for the money, while the story itself is pretty lame I couldn't help but get my nose out of joint reading lines like "The 2 Greatest players of all time" (meaning Pele and Maradona)
I'm sorry but I never saw anything special about Maradona and then he completed possibly one of the most controversial moments in Football World Cup history.

Absolutely undeniably ourtright cheating, not an accident, deliberate.
And this guy is still reguarded as one of the greatest 2 players of all time.

Ok so apart from this incident, could someone please show me some evidence that puts Maradona above players like George Best, Johan Cruyff, Gerd Muller, Franz Beckenbauer,Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, Bobby Charlton, Socrates, Michel Platini.... I could go on and on with listing players who I regaurd as much much better players than the little Argentine cheat.
His second goal against England in the 1986 match was great, but I can't help wonder why the English defense didn't try very hard to take him down, something to do with the fact that when ever anyone got close to him he would take a dive?
Argentina went on to win the Cup in '86.

Now, this brings me to my 2nd question.... video refereeing, almost all other sports have it, NFL, NHL, Baseball, Basketball..... why has it never been used for Football?.... Especially in the World Cup, to try and eliminate these incidents and make the game fair. Both the incident with Maradona and the Incident in 2006 with Rooney would have been instantly discredited along with a huge number of other travesties against a host of teams.
This is the most popular sport on earth, the World Cup is the biggest event on earth.... yet we rely purely on 1 Ref and 2 linesmen to make all the descisions and in some case, just guess what actually happend and take other players words for what happend.

It's a beautiful game.... think how much more beautiful it could be if the playing field was leveled.

But I take it you're not allowed to use your fist to punch the ball? But you can use your feet and head, right? Are elbows allowed?

@Brandy... No, you are allowed to hit the ball (control or otherwise) with any part of your body except arms/hands, other wise it's volleyball lol.
The ref will often let it go if it's accidental which often happens, but in the video above it clearly shows his hand risen for contact and in such cases the player should be sent off or booked or at very least conceed a free kick/penalty.

@Mot.... He was a fine player, shame his personal life was shrouded in darkness.
Personally I think Cruyff is/was the greatest player along with Pele, great skill, determination and exemplery leadership skills. But every name I mentioned above regaurdless of order should be widely known as the best of the best in Football..... NOT Maradona..... not in the same class, barely in the same sport lol
