Here ya go. I reccomend you back up your registry first, but its up to you.

Download this file to your desktop, double click and import it into your registry, then reboot.

This has got to be the most requested fix I've ever had before :D

I get a PM every month or so for it, it seems like ;)

You will find there are a few extra profiles, but they are easy enough to delete from the Power profiles properties.

After using the fix I was able to get the Portable/Laptop Scheme. However, I still cannot get a setting that shows the battery level icon. I only get an icon that shows AC Power. Any ideas what to do to correct this?

    Thanks

Hmmm, for that to occur, I think the battery must be ACPI compliant, as strange as that sounds. Was this an upgrade to XP?

Yes is it an upgrade from Win ME.

Do me a favor, go to start, run, and type:

    devmgmt.msc

    Click OK.

Then under Device Manager, expand the section called Computer. What does it say?

    Here is an example:

OK I did that and played around a little with update hardware fromt there and a Batteries thing is now showing. Problem is, if I reboot it does not appear unless I update. Each time I restart the batteris info disappears

This is what it shows:Batteries-microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery

Computer-Advanced Configuration and Power Interface(ACPI) PC

hmmmm sorry to be such a pest but How do I update the Bio? I am not savvy when it comes to tinkering with the Registry.

The BIOS flash will be updating your hardware, not the registry.

What is the laptop brand and model?

    Do me a favor.

    Right click on My Computer.

    Go to manage.

    Go to Event Viewer.

    Click on the System log.

Look for an entry(s) with the source of ACPI.

    Are they present?

Ok, I think its either a limitation of your hardware vs. compatibility with XP, or its leftover software from when you upgraded to Windows ME.

    HOW TO: Install Windows XP

I reccomend trying a parallel install. This will tell us if its an application installed or hardware related.

The parallel also lets you test things out without reinstalling applications. If its ahardware limitation, this will save you the unneccessary clean install to find that out.

It will take me some time to do this so I will get back to you with the results.

I really appreciate the help and time you have spent on my probem.
