For the love of God USB hell

Hi,

I installed ( or tried to install) a camera onto my comp..... its running Windows 2000. Since then anything else I try to plug into my USB ports has stopped working such as my modem and webcam.
I have uninstalled the camera and still nothing else works.
I called a tech helpline but the only thing they seem to be good at is contradicting each other!. One told me that I could download more drivers at usbman.com and another told me that it was pointless doing that, the camera had corrupted the USB ports and I needed to take it to the doctor. Is there anything I can do myself to correct this?
I have checked that the usb ports are working in device manager and have unistalled and reinstalled the modem and still no luck. Bloody camera grrrrr.

 

what software did you use to install your camera? I've never used anything but the default windows drivers for devices like that

I used erm a disc called SOFTWARE 42361. It has a windows thing on the side saying WINDOWS 98SE/ME/2000/XP.
The camera is a by those well known camera makers TEVION *cough*

 

What version of 2000 do you have? As in, what service pack level?

 

I have no idea what that means?
Windows professional 2000?

 

Click, start, then run, the type in: winver (press enter)

This should tell you what OS you have. My main point is finding out what service pack you have. If you don't have a service pack installed, then you are going to need to install service pack 4 for windows 2000.

Or just go to windows update and get it.
