    lol!!
    An excellent point well presented!

I'm still going to keep pushing ubuntu to everyone I know though because most of them just surf.

To be fair, compiz-fusion (and friends) is not needed to run linux and it is noted for being unstable. Installing unstable software is bound to have unexpected results.

I do agree with you that it is not ready for the home front, but I think this is a poor example as to why.

    Shut up noob. ;)

It was more of an issue with how complicated things in general are to repair, and I know you can relate to that.

    Amirite? Am I? Huh? Huh?

Yeah, I do agree with you, thats what I just said! I just think that particular example is a bad one.

A better example might be how X crashes with certain video intensive programs due to an unstable driver. :banghead

Or maybe how I can't control my laptop's brightness effectively because the driver for that is buggy. :hammer

Or maybe its because certain manufacturers do not provide documentation to the linux community so a lot of guessing/experimenting takes place when creating such drivers.

Or I could just sum all that up and say 'do not buy new hardware with the intention of putting linux on it, wait for stable drivers.'

But the laptop was on sale and I couldn't resist. :)

I'm a noob at this but can't you just copy/ paste this stuff, as long as someone wrote the script?

The script that these guys are giving him. I thought that was supposed to be one of the neat things about Linux.

Nobody gave anyone scripts in the thread I linked.

I posted a problem, which to date, still has no resolution.
