Just to stir up the pot a bit, post your reliability ratings :)

    Vista is soooo unstable :p

The bad mark I have is from a "disruptive" shutdown due to power outage and my UPS forcing the shutdown ;)

Ah HA I raise you by .02 :p

In seriousness.. its a great measure of stabilty, I dont have my main PCs Reliabilty ratings but below is test PC, this is one of my laptops which I use for testing and MS beta projects, so gets hammered with unstable software.

I'd have a longer timeline, but eh..Vista firewall control really wreaked havoc.

While I fixed the problem, Windows was left in a state of...well, not something I'd want to use, so I formatted.

timeline for this PC from new and out of shop with no re-install is from 27/05/2007 my desktop will be from alot earlier, will post that one tomorrow.

But mine and your reliabilty monitors do go to show, stabilty is in Vista, however it does need user input in not installing non-Vista compatible applications, in which many just dont take into concideration, then blame Vista for user error!

As to your issue with Vista firewall, those things happen as we early adopters who will test things and sadly destroy the OS... but we both know that these things happen, we overcome and adapt.

So, you are saying people will have to upgrade their entire non-Vista compatible software and hardware (assuming they have Vista-compatible versions) just to....? Hah!

This is why many do not and should not upgrade just to upgrade because MS OSes are really not that built with backwards compatibility in mind which is why upgrading Windows creates so many issues!

Even MS knows Vista is a pretty looking p.o.s. and that is why certain components are deliberately not being released for XP. All the high hw requirements for what? So you can look at a pretty desktop?

Imho, Vista does not offer any realistic or practical benefit over XP, at least not just yet.

Hola Turc. Welcome back to MG.

There is quite a bit underneath the exterior that has been upgraded, that you dont see.

Vista is less tolerant to shoddy coders, which intorduces all sorts of compatibility problems. Then include the new security measures, and that adds compatibility issues.

Both are a good thing. Pity that nobody understand that.

Many companies *cough*Nvidia*cough* had mucho early warning and sat on their fat butts and are still having issues due to them slacking.

Desktop reliability chart from last Novermber, when I got my hands on the RTM, so did have many early softwares that did nto work due to being not fully compatible. So 8.64 is not bad.

Ive found a driver or application failing to load on boot counts as a boot failure ;)
