Did Windows just force people who have Windows updates turn off to take updates?

No, I have no situation. It just sounds like that Microsoft can get in to anybody PC. Using a backdoor key?

Are you running Windows 10? If so, the Home version is very restricted in how much control you're 'allowed' over your computer, the Professional version is better, though currently (W10 v. 1803) as shown in the above links, how much better seems to be controlled by some random variable.

I,m not running Win 10. my laptop (Toshiba A-135) has 8.1. So I have to take care of it. (32-bit system)
But my main computer is Linux Ubuntu 18.04.

Back to my question, did Windows force updates?

I don't think W8/8.1 have had many updates recently, what's the most recent update you've received?

Windows 8 gets no updates because support for it. Sorry, I don't have a date. (I have zero experience with Win 8 so I keep no notes on it.) Everyone was supposed to update to 8.1.

There are monthly updates to 8.1, just as there are for Windows 7.
The May Security only bundle is KB4103715.

My Windows 8.1 on this hard drive (triple boot, mbr, with W7,8., and w10) did updates yesterday, so must be something updated from Microsoft.

Those might be non-security. I have auto updates turned off. I only apply security updates that I manually download from the catalog.
