I have this Ford Aerostar, "beater for the Kids"

I'm trying to replace the brakes, front pads & rotors.
The Question is how is the calipar removed?
It does not have bolts holding the calipar but a sort of clip system.
I know the answer is probably simple.

This is the first ford Ive attempted repair, I have replaced brakes on many chevys.
All the chevy's have had bolts holding the calipars to the spindals

    Thanks.

I would think it would have to have bolts of some type. They are usually on the inside, and typically hard to see. They are most likely Allen or Torx heads.

I would keep looking, though. Maybe there are just clips, but that would be weird.

Best bet, go get one of those Haynes or Chiltons manuals. They suck, but they're only $12 compared to $80 for a good shop manual.

I think I may have the answer for you...I do believe they may be the same as the brakes on an old Bronco II I had. Is there what looks like a square shaped thing going from one side of the rotor to the other...with a rubber piece inside of it? If so...remove the clip on the top of the rotor...and using a socket extension and a hammer....gently tap this piece out and voila...the caliper should be freed. If I`m right, there`ll be two on each caliper...passing through a tab on each side of the rotor, a couple inches apart on the caliper. You may have to tap this thing out from the inside. The rubber center makes it like a compression fitting, and there are tabs on it to keep it from being pushed through too far. I hope I was of some help to you. If I`m wrong...big f*****g deal...won`t be the first time, nor the last I`m sure. heh heh heh Good Luck

Sounds like sasquatch is correct. I find the metal/rubber shims are easiest beaten through from outboard to inboard. Use a hammer and a big screwdriver. Hammer the shim inwards until it butts against the knuckle and caliper, then you may need to tap each metal tab alternately until they hammer through. then position the big screwdriver on both tabs and beat it all the way through. Wear your safety glasses.

I figured it out, simple once ya know how.

    Anyhow, Sasquatch77 was right.

Beat em, that what Ford's are for.
