I'm hoping to soon buy a laptop for uni, but I've looked at several commercial brand name laptops, and have been wondering if I should go back to the guys in YK who gave me my current rig, been running it for 5 years now with only a VC upgrade. here are the specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.9 Ghz
    K7N2 Delta MS-6570 (v 1.X) ATX Mainboard
    NVidia nForce 2 Chipset
    120 GB HDD
    GeForce 4400 64MB (Upgraded it to a GeForce 6600 128Mb about 3 months ago for 62$)

I paid 850$ for this in December of 2002, does it look like a good deal? If it was I'll be thinking of going back to them.

4 years ago, that was a decent PC (except for the video card maybe, I don't really remember). If you're happy with the products and the service you rec'd from them, go back! Give 'em a chance, especially if they're an independent, local PC shop. I'm a firm believer in supporting the little guy ;)

Checked some stuff out, and it looks like that VC cost almost 230$ back then.

Heh, and yes they are an independant shop. Sadly, I have to go almost 3000Km to get back to them(by road), as they are in Yellowknife, NT and we recently moved to Ontario.:( Ah Oh well, can't blame em. I'm (hopefully) heading up there this summer, so I'll be able to check'em out once again.

Oh and it's 5 years ago. Not four, that would kick the price down exponentially, because as soon as you leave the store, your comp is out of date, sad really.
