I have an old Dell Dimension PC. I want to donate it, but first I need to format the C drive. I'm not sure how to start. I can't format running windows and tired to boot from disk. Doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to format in DOS???

You go into the BIOS before windows starts and be sure that boot from CD/DVD drive is selected as the first boot device, otherwise it will keep booting your hard drive.

DBan, or simpler yet, just swap out the drive for a new one, and store the old one on your shelf until you either no longer need it and then destroy with either a five pound mini sledge, or some well placed drilled holes into the case and platters.

For some people, that is not good enough, due to they wish to hide any tracks, regardless if it is even a letter written to their aunt Susie, they do not want people finding it.
