    Hello,

I have been trying to format some old p.c's with win 2000 on it...as we no longer have use for them.
I have booted up with a win 98 boot disk which has the format command on it, and when I try to run the format command ( format c:)
It comes up with the error message...invalid drive specification...

Any ideas on why this could be happening.....the local drive is c:\...and its the only hdd in the p.c...

    Thanks,

Win 2000 like win XP (if using NTFS) and NT are designed like this for security..
Your boot disk is made in Win98 which is using a FAT32 format
We could talk about the differences, but it makes my head hurt!!:D
A FAT32 disk cannot "see" the NTFS harddrive...
You will need to delete the partition and then recreate it and then format it.
I can't remember if FDISK will do this (I think it will)
I use a program named Partition Magic.
It cost a few dollars but is awesome (in my opinion!)
Changing partitions on the fly etc. etc.

Bottom line is the Security on your Win2000 drive is working perfectly!

Hope I helped a bit or at least thoroughly confused you!:(

    More questions, just reply!

    Curtis
