format dos command

    it's been a long time and i want to format my win 98 machine and my xp machine can anyone tell me the dos command for both.?

    However, you cannot format an NTFS partition from DOS (if the drive with XP is formatted NTFS; most are). You'd have to boot to a Win98 or WinME boot floppy, run fdisk, erase the partition, create a new partition, and format it as FAT32. Or, just boot to your XP install CD; that will give you the option to reformat the WinXP/NTFS hard drive. The Win98 drive can be formatted as stated above.... just type format c: at a DOS prompt.
