Format Factory Sells Out And Goes Bad

Format factory, the popular file conversion utility download, has sold out and gone bad.
I have been using Format Factory for years, and I wanted to install the latest version, but Firefox 65.0.2 threw up a blocking screen with a warning that this site installs software that might damage my computer and would not transfer me. Since I have used FF for years with no problems, I thought it was some kind of false positive, so I accessed the site through Majorgeeks. Downloaded ok.
When I booted the install file, a foistware screen appeared with several options pre-enabled. I disabled the checkboxes and proceeded with the install.
The foistware programs were not installed. However, a program called Bytefence was installed without my knowledge or permission. It immediately tried to access the internet, but Zone Alarm prevented it. I removed it using the Windows uninstaller, and then removed the orphan entry in Programs x86. Next I scanned the register and removed all registry entries for "Bytefence".
Now my DVD is not recognized and my wireless internet connection is broken. I attempted to do a system restore, but I got an error message that it could not complete because something was blocking it, and messaged that an anitvirus program was interfering. I found 4 permission entries for Bytefence in Zone Alarm and removed them. I did a Windows C:\\ search for "bytefence" and came up with nothing.

So now I had a broken DVD connection, wireless internet connection and system restore not working. Fortunately, I am an avid backup believer, so I fired up Macrium Reflect and re-imaged my system so I am back up and running.
