Format Then Can't Connect To Internet

Hey All, I recently formatted my friends computer but after reinstalling windows, I am unable to connect to the internet with her computer. I tried making a new network for a broadband connection but it just automatically goes to the page "Unable to Display blah blah". She has a laptop and it is a broadband connection, no router, not wireless, no hub, just directly connected to the wall. Shes running a P4 2.4, Windows XP Pro, Dell Laptop. Thanks...

What type of broadband connection? Cable or DSL?

Are they hooked up to the broadband modem?

 

Its accually a T1 connection, she lives in the dorms at a university, so its directly connected into the wall into the dorms network.... Usally how it works is when you connect your prompted to regiester the network (once) and after that it will automatically connect from then on... Anything else let me know...

 

i can remember when my sister stayed in a dorm. It was a whole mainframe thing. She had like 3 passwords just to get on the net. My advice, which i think is very logical actually, is go nextdoor into the next dorm and ask to see their computer, and state why, and push your reason harder and harder till they let ya in. Next look to see if they have some type of novell client installed. I believe thats how my sister had hers...although it was quite a few years back when windows 95 was popular. Nonetheless, he/she should have some type of client that handles passwords and the like....take care...write us back and let us know whatcha found! take care....

 

with dell computers after reinstalling windows you have to reinstall your network drivers also. it happened to me before
