formatted now can't seem to load xp??

i have formatted the c drive on my daughters computer and i have made a boot disk from my computer, used it in hers but cant seem to get dos to find her d drive (cd ) so that i can start installing xp on it..also not sure what to type in to start installing it..someone please help me, feeling rather stupid..

 

why dont you put your xp disk in the cd drive and go for it, did you format with the xp disc or another program?

 

have tried to put my xp disk in and it just says invalid system disk..i formatted from dos..so ive put in dos boot disk so i can use dos and i can't seem to get it to find the cd?

 

As you said that you formated with DOS and used a boot disk made on your computer, I'm assuming that you are using ME or Win 98 on yours. More information about your daughters computer would be useful, but you need to go into BIOS and change the boot order to boot from CDROM first. Reboot ( make sure the floppy isn't in the drive ) and XP should take over. Any problems post back, and I'm sure that some one will be glad to help!

Just reread your post! How did you format the computer, as you said that you made the disk after formatting your daughters computer, and it didn't work?

thanks i'll try that..my daughters computer had windows 98 on it, i formatted it, then used my computer with windows xp pro and made a boot disk, because her computer kept saying insert system disk, so i put in boot disk but cant get the prompt to change to d drive..only c and a (and b for some reason)...but i'm hoping what you said about the bios will get it to find the windows xp home disk..if not...'i'll be back'..thank you
