Ok guys, I did a blonde thing. I formatted a removable hard drive under WinXP home and when it asked if I wanted to assign a drive letter, I accidently clicked "NO". Now I cannot see the drive on any of my computers, so I can't reformat it again properly. Is there any way out of this?

    Try this:

    1. Connect the drive to your system, and power it on (if necessary)
    2. Right-click My Computer
    3. Select 'Manage'
    4. Select 'Disk Management'

Here, you should see a list of all the volumes on your system. If you do not see one the corresponds to your removeable hard drive, then try selecting 'Rescan Disks' from the 'Action' menu. Hopefully, this makes your drive appear. If not, try the 'Import Foreign Drives' option from the same menu, if it is there. Once you can see your disk in Disk Management, you can assign it a drive letter by right-clicking it, and selecting 'Assign Drive Letter/Path'

Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately, rescanning the disks will not work and I don't have the Import foreign drives option. I can't believe that I did this...

Problem solved. I plugged the drive into the usb port again and for some reason,it decided to recognize it this time. I got into disk management and was able to change the drive letter. Just one of life's little mysteries...
    Thanks for the help.
