    Hello,

I like to reformat every once in a while, and a person told me of an option I didn't know about previously.

He said that you could partition the HD, and install the os on one partition, and all your downloaded media files on the other(s). That way when you reinstall, you just wipe the os partition and not the other(s), thereby preserving all your music, videos, etc.

I knew you could partition drives, just not that you could do this. Does it work for the long haul? Does it introduce any conflicts?

    thanks for your opinions

Not an issue really.. it just gives you an area of the drive that files are stored on. If you want to get really technical, you could install your system and get it to where you want to be then you could image your C: drive partition and when you want to "reinstall" , you could just blast the image over the install that you want to "format" and voila.. you're right back to where you started without having to reconfigure everything; AND you'll not have even touched your D: drive (second partition for files).

But the programs that do that are like $60 or more, right?
