Found a register/CD key... any way to tell what it goes to?

Well, I was cleaning my desk and I found all kinds of stuff that I haven't seen in months, but one thing I found has me intrigued...

I found a Product/CD key for a Microsoft (I know it is MS because it says Microsoft rolleyes ) product, and I do not remember what it goes to.

It is a yellow/white sticker with the product key on it.

I am 100% sure I did not use it because I would have at least remembered what it was, but I have no idea where it came from.

I know there are programs to find cd keys for products installed on your system, but I didn't know if Microsoft (or another company) has a link or program to figure one out if you just typed a key in.

    Any clue?

I Googled the lower right numbers/letters on the label and several things popped up (Vista, Office, and some others), but I already knew it was a MS key, heh.

BTW... those numbers/letters that are located on the lower right of the label are X12-22652.

But those labels might have been used for any number of MS products.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Check out the table and list of programs in this KB article - won't get you where you're going, but it's a good start.

Thanks, but I believe that is just for product IDs. Product keys and IDs are totally different things.

If anyone has Microsoft Office (any version) in the new plastic DVD clamshell case... could you look and see if the Product Key in the case is on the actual case, or if it is on a piece of paper (like the ones in the Windows 7's DVD cases).

Also, does anyone remember if any other MS products use the same type of DVD case? Other than Windows 7 and Office.

    Hi

X12-22652 is a part number code and likely links to a version of Office 2007 (I have a copy of Office 2007 that has that code on the label), but a twist to this is that its on a the same label that I have for Windows 7 Home Premium, so is likely the sticker product code over the actual application, which is normally found on the case cover.

But maybe worth a call to MSFT support to ask them, what application your key links too.

Sadly cannot answert that one for you as I have MSDN and TechNet so download my MSFT apps these days.
