Found Bootsect.bak file in Vista

Found BOOTSECT.bak file when typing C:\ in start have read up on this and it seems that these type of files are associated with XP my PC has never had XP installed on it and was purchased with Vista pre-installed.

Can anyone explain !! :confused

Kinda common to have that file in Vista, dont think any of the many Vista installs I have done have not had it, and checked the Vista Ultimate I'm using now and that file is there, causes no issues.

Likely a legacy file, could also crop up if you dual boot as its associated with the bootloader, can delete if you wish as its not needed in Vista, would make a backup of it though.

Don't want to sound idiotic but i've never backed any files up before so how do i do that before deleting

Hi nope a good question if you not done it before, so easy way is to create a new folder on your C drive somewhere My Documents is good a place as any and call it Temp Backup, then just right click and choose copy that file and then open the created folder and right click inside the folder and choose Paste and the file will be saved.

Then run your PC fro a few days and if ok and no issues delete the folder.

I deleted the on my PC before as its a new install so not gotten around to a cleanup.
