Fox Channel Sues Comedian Over Freedom of Speech…

Are the people at the Fox News trying to limit freedom of speech?

Even though it sounds a bit ironic, Fox News attempted (unsuccessfully)
to sue Penguin Books to keep “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them”
off the shelves. The book reveals the wrongdoings of major news
organizations, including Fox News. Funny how Fox tries to portray
themselves as free speech advocates, isn’t it?

Has anyone read Al Franken’s book yet, or heard about this case? It
looks like Court TV is airing a documentary on it called “The First
Amendment Project” this coming Tuesday (12/7, my birthday!!!) at 10pm.
I’m not going to be home to watch but that’s why they invented Tivo,
right?

The problem with free speech is you can bias it all you like and if someone tries to shut you up, you just complain that they are "breaching free speech". It might be true, but surly its Fox that decides whether they want the public to know about it?

 

Fox sued Pengiun and Franken because he used their 'trademark' phrase "Fair And Balanced" in his book's title, and the court threw it out because Fox could not demonstrate their phrase was original or unique, and thus could not be trademarked. It was in the news several months ago, so if you are going to form an opinion, you should always check the facts first.

 

There is no such thing as freedom of speech. Anywhere.

It's a phrase that actually means, "the freedom to say whatever I want. Not you though!"

 

First time I heard it put that way. Right on the mark.
