    I have a
    Gigabyte GA-8IG1000MK
    2.53ghz Intel P4
1.25 gigs of PC3200 Kingston RAM at CL3
1 80gig SATA Western Digital drive
    450watt Antec power supply
Sapphire x1950 Pro 512mb AGP running at 8x

When I play games such as BF2 or Source Engine games, I get terrible FPS. I run them at medium settings at 1024x768 resolution and frame rate rarely stays above 30fps indoor and outdoors. I cleaned up my registry and turned off all unnecesary processes and still the same thing happens.

    Vsync is turned off.

Could it be that the power supply is to weak to handle the card? The case is kept very cool by 2 120mm fans.

only 2.53 gig intel I find has a 533 mhz fsb most list it as a celeron. It may be power (whats the 12 v rail amps say it has? ) or it may be the cpu bottlenecking the video card. Also make sure the latest drivers are installed

    Intel Pentium 4, 2533 MHz (19 x 133)
    Intel Springdale-G i865G chipset

How do I check how much power is on the rail amp thing?

I have the latest Catalyst drivers for the card. I tested out the Omega drivers and they ran exactly the same.

the power supply will list the amps per rail on the side of it

found this on website for card
    Intel® Pentium® 4 or AMD® Athlon® 64 FX CPU's
CPU running at 2.4 GHz or higher
450-Watt power supply or greater, 30 Amps on 12 volt rail recommended (assumes fully loaded system)

On the 12v rails there is 17 amps. I lied, its a 400 watt Eagle power supply. I'm gonna go to the comp store tommorow and get one with 30amps on each rail. I'll inform you tommorow of what happens. Hopefully that should fix it.

just needs 30 amps on the 12 v rail :)

Is that 30 amps per rail? If so would I need like a 750watt power supply to power that plus 2 hard drives, dvd, and cd drive?

I went and bought a 750 watt power supply but I am afraid to put it in because I don't know if it will make my stuff melt. Does it only draw as much power as needed? I'm thinking that putting in 2 more cd drives and my old floppy drive will take up some more of that power but I am afraid.

you wont melt the pc or anything it only uses what it needs. It wont have to work anywhere near as hard as your old power supply

Oh thank God. I was gonna go home and back up all my stuff and pray that I wouldn't melt my system. Thanks for the help.

I got this 24 pin connector to plug into the motherboard. It has a detachable 4 pin on the side. I have no idea if I'm supposed to let that hang there or place it in the spot next to my processor where the old psu's went.

    I tried both.

All the fans and lights turn on. The monitor stays at a black screen. The light goes from green to orange and then the monitor turns off. Is it possible that I fried the motherboard? The little light on the motherboard still turns on though.

I tried the old power supply and the same thing happened.

The 20-24 pin connector should be separated and the 4 pin plugged in by the cpu. Sounds like something came loose during power supply swap. Make sure video card is fully seated also check your power and reset buttons make sure they are in the right spots.

This is the one that I bought. Power Supply

Its 20/24 pin connector looks like this. 20/24 Pin Connector

I don't know which way to plug in the 4 pin connector because the holes at the bottom of it don't line up correctly with the holes on the board. However it will still slide into the spot. When I plug the 4 pin in and turn on the computer the lights and fans turn on and spin for a second then just shut off.

Edit: I'm gonna go find one of these and see if this will make it work. I'm hoping it does. I looked all over my motherboard and didn't see any signs of it being dead. I could be wrong but, I'm more willing to spend like $5-$10 then buying a new motherboard

you have a 4 prong plug with that psu it has 2 yellows and 2 black wires on it (square shaped) find it and plug it in to board where 4 pin plug is then try to power on the board

There wasn't one that came with it. I checked all the wires. I have 3 6pin PCI-E connectors though! rolleyes Upon further inspection of my motherboard I saw a capacitor that leaked brown stuff. I'm going to try to get it replaced or buy a new motherboard.

a bad cap is a bad thing.replace the board asap. That explains a lot with your problem.
