I've recently downloaded fraps to record my in game play. Normally I get 30-60 fps while playing, but as soon as i start recording it drops to the 7-15 fps range. Is there any way to prevent this?

Oh and also, when converting it with tmpgenc, is there any way to convert it without losing so much quality?

this is basically system load on your pc, you need a better cpu / more ram to improve fraps performance, maybe even a new video card.

With an ATi 9600XT i got about 15 FPS while recording with FRAPS... just enough to annoy me..

Try recording a demo of yourself playing, then, play the demo ingame and record with FRAPS then... thats what i did with CS...
