Free alternative to Word Excell?

Since we're having to use the "kids" computer because our computer died, the memory on this one is very limited. We cannot load the microsoft office program on here without big trouble.

I really need a spread sheet, even if it's incredibly basic.

Are there any alternatives out there to MS Excel that don't take up too much memory and might be "free"? Maybe I should check tucows??

Great opensource free office package that can read/write MS office format files.

 

So, if I'm looking at it right it is a networking program?

 

Can be installed both standalone or network. If you are going to install so multiple users can use it on one system then you have to do a network install. Which is pretty straight foward and explained in the installation instructions.

 

I hope this computer can take 82.3 M without crashing (no choice). Checked the hard drive 10.6 GB on the drive. The memory (512 mb) and flakiness of this system is what concerns me.

This looks like a good program, I'm going to try it. Thank you!

I know this post is old, but i was looking for a free program that reads Microsoft Word. My daughter has Word on her computer for school, but she needs to use mine to print. My computer does not have Word, and so won't print it for her. Kind of frustrating for her.
Anyways, I downloaded the OpenOffice, (took me hours with my 28.8 connection)
When I try to install it, I get a NSIS Error--installer is corrupted ot incomplete.
Can someone tell me what this means? or what I can do?

If you are having trouble dowloading Open Office you can take a look at AbiWord as a replacement for MS Word.
